Kaitlyn Lara's Module 3 Assignment

Summary of:

Technology as a Tool to Support Instruction
Lynne Schrum

In this article Lynne Schrum gives us her personal stance on technology being used in the classroom. She supports technology when it is being used to enhance the students learning. Schrum talks about technology as a tool and how it benefits both the student and the teacher. For the students, technology is a way that they can not only learn but gain the experience by seeing. They are no longer sitting back just listening, they are participants. With technology, students are also able to connect with and gain knowledge from throughout the world.

Teachers also benefit from technology. They can use technology to enhance their student’s learning. Instead of just telling them about Mars, let them go do their own research and teach the class what they learned. This also allows for a “diversity of outcomes.” Because technology is a tool, teachers must learn how to use it. Schrum believes that teachers need to educate themselves on the tools they are using and make sure they have support from administrators. Technology needs to be planned and only the best tools should be used.

  1. Kaitlyn,
I think that you did an excellent job on your Power Point Presentation and a great job on your actual article assignment. I think that technology in classrooms is very important, and that teachers can use technology for so many different things. Your slide entitled "Teacher Benefits" is so true!
I think you did a great job overall. :)
